About the school

Cove School is located in Hampshire. The Art Department is a strong and successful team of four specialist teachers who deliver Fine Art, 3D Art, Textile Art and Photography. The department consistently achieves good outcomes and is well resourced with three specialist art rooms, including a kiln room, and two part-time Art Technicians. The department organises enrichment trips, including visits to Kew Gardens and Brighton.

The role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Art Teacher to join the department on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will teach across the full age range from Year 7 to Year 11 and will contribute to both the academic and pastoral life of the school. This post is offered on the ECT, MPR or UPR scale. Sponsorship is not available for this role.

Key responsibilities

  • Engage, enthuse, motivate and challenge pupils of all abilities to achieve strong academic progress
  • Maintain high expectations of both self and pupils
  • Teach a standard timetable allocation across Years 7 to 11
  • Share resources and good practice, participate in lesson observations, collaborative teaching and the continuing professional development programme
  • Contribute to the efficient running of the department, including setting and marking examinations, attending meetings and completing delegated administrative tasks
  • Actively safeguard and promote the welfare of children
  • Support the school’s aims and objectives for teaching and learning
  • Adhere to and promote all school policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Good degree in a directly related subject (desirable)
  • Thorough knowledge of the 11-16 Art curriculum up to GCSE level
  • Recognised teaching qualification such as a PGCE, or equivalent experience
  • Awareness of safeguarding requirements and good practice
  • Good level of IT literacy
  • Ability to deliver inspirational and informative lessons to the full age and ability range
  • Capacity to build positive and authoritative rapport with pupils
  • Excellent and effective classroom management skills
  • Strong communication skills for effective dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitors
  • Organised and self-motivated approach with a proven record of meeting targets and deadlines
