Assistant Head - Pastoral Care- Whole School

The role

To play a key role in leading the school’s pastoral care strategy, ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the school’s whole-school pastoral care and wellbeing strategy.
• Promote a positive school culture that prioritises student wellbeing, safeguarding, and behaviour management.
• Oversee the implementation of behaviour policies, student support systems, and pastoral programmes.
• Work closely with Heads of Year, teachers, counsellors, and safeguarding leads to support student wellbeing.
• Monitor student attendance, engagement, and behaviour, implementing early intervention strategies where needed.
• Liaise with parents and external agencies to support students’ social and emotional development.
• Lead initiatives that promote student voice, leadership, and personal development.
• Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are consistently implemented in line with UAE and UK best practices.
• Support staff training and development in pastoral care and student wellbeing.
• Contribute to school improvement planning and inspection readiness (KHDA/DSIB).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant subject.
• Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE / B.Ed. or equivalent).
• Proven leadership experience within a British curriculum school.
• Strong understanding of pastoral systems, safeguarding, and student wellbeing frameworks.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents in a multicultural environment.
• Knowledge of the KHDA inspection framework is desirable.
