Assistant Head - Pastoral Care- Whole School
The role
To play a key role in leading the school’s pastoral care strategy, ensuring a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and develop the school’s whole-school pastoral care and wellbeing strategy.
- Promote a positive school culture that prioritises student wellbeing, safeguarding, and behaviour management.
- Oversee the implementation of behaviour policies, student support systems, and pastoral programmes.
- Work closely with Heads of Year, teachers, counsellors, and safeguarding leads to support student wellbeing.
- Monitor student attendance, engagement, and behaviour, implementing early intervention strategies where needed.
- Liaise with parents and external agencies to support students’ social and emotional development.
- Lead initiatives that promote student voice, leadership, and personal development.
- Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are consistently implemented in line with UAE and UK best practices.
- Support staff training and development in pastoral care and student wellbeing.
- Contribute to school improvement planning and inspection readiness (KHDA/DSIB).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant subject.
- Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE / B.Ed. or equivalent).
- Proven leadership experience within a British curriculum school.
- Strong understanding of pastoral systems, safeguarding, and student wellbeing frameworks.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents in a multicultural environment.
- Knowledge of the KHDA inspection framework is desirable.
