About the school
Heckington House School is a specialist provision in East Heckington, Lincolnshire, for students with social, emotional and mental health needs who have found mainstream education difficult. The school offers small, nurturing classrooms equipped with smart boards, alongside vocational subjects such as Hair and Beauty and Construction. Class sizes follow a 4 students to 2 adults model, enabling a trauma-informed approach to both pastoral support and educational progress.
The role
Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 | Full Time (40 hours per week)
The Assistant Headteacher will lead and support the school’s KS4 English curriculum and teaching and learning for KS4 English and literacy. The post holder will join the Senior Leadership Team to deliver outstanding leadership while ensuring a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment that meets pupils’ social, emotional and behavioural needs. The role requires modelling the highest standards of professional conduct and embodying the EPIC values of Keys Group.
Key responsibilities
- Provide outstanding leadership and management as a member of the Senior Leadership Team
- Lead teaching and learning for the KS4 English curriculum and support literacy responsibilities across the school
- Maintain a deep and accurate understanding of school improvement strategies for teaching and learning using the National Curriculum
- Deliver exemplary teaching and learning, including responsibility for standards, curriculum and pupil progress
- Implement tracking, data and assessment systems to analyse learning across the school
- Manage staff teams and resources, contribute to appraisals and support the induction of new staff
- Apply knowledge of the Ofsted framework and independent school standards
- Support the mental health and wellbeing of staff and students
- Identify and address teaching and learning training needs
- Maintain accurate records and attend multi-agency meetings
- Build strong relationships with professional services and community groups
Requirements
- Proven track record of school improvement and leadership
- Currently working as a Senior Leader or subject leader seeking the next challenge
- Extensive understanding of the Ofsted framework and independent school standards
- Demonstrated leadership in safeguarding, curriculum planning and exam preparation
- Strong expertise in behaviour management across a whole-school setting
- Thorough understanding of the SEND Code of Practice
- Working knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education
- Strong interpersonal skills with pupils, staff, parents and external partners
- QTS or QTLS is essential
