The role
King’s College School, Cascais seeks a dynamic, visionary and highly qualified Head of Science and Biology Teacher to lead its expanding science department. The successful candidate will divide their time between strategic departmental leadership and classroom teaching. As Head of Science, the post-holder will provide academic direction across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, mentor subject specialists and manage laboratory facilities. As a Biology Teacher, the role involves inspiring students from Years 7 to 13, preparing them for examination success and university admissions through critical thinking and scientific problem-solving.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, manage and mentor the Science team across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
- Oversee science curriculum progression aligned with Cambridge standards.
- Deliver engaging, high-level Biology lessons to secondary students.
- Manage laboratory safety protocols, equipment and departmental budgets.
- Track academic progress, manage practical and internal assessments, and prepare students for university admissions.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Biology or a closely related scientific field.
- Recognised formal teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS or equivalent).
- Proven track record of teaching secondary Biology, ideally with leadership experience in an international or Cambridge curriculum school.
- Strong subject knowledge, dynamic leadership and fluent English communication.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, with all appointments subject to safer recruitment practices and pre-employment background checks.
