The role

We are seeking a committed Teacher of Computing to join a supportive staff team. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for improving the lives of autistic pupils and their families, together with a clear commitment to planning and delivering an enriching and meaningful curriculum. Previous experience with autistic pupils or in a special educational needs setting is desirable, although full training and support will be provided.

The Computing Teacher will take responsibility for subject implementation and teaching across the school, ensuring that expectations set out in the Teachers’ Standards are met, that differentiation provides appropriate stretch and challenge for each pupil, and that standards of learning and achievement continue to improve.

Key responsibilities

  • Promote the subject and its value across the school, maintaining a clear understanding of its delivery and impact on pupil achievement.
  • Contribute to the school development plan and produce a subject action plan.
  • Support pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, cultural, physical and mental development alongside British values through subject teaching.
  • Promote careers education and illustrate career pathways linked to the subject.
  • Support colleagues with planning and delivery to maintain consistently high standards.
  • Develop and regularly review the vision, aims and purpose of the subject area.
  • Oversee curriculum planning to ensure it is well sequenced and promotes pupil progress.
  • Ensure effective and consistent implementation of the planned curriculum.
  • Maintain an effective assessment system that tracks pupil progress and demonstrates positive impact on learning.
  • Hold overarching responsibility for pupil achievement and standards in the subject.
  • Identify and implement interventions where needed and ensure appropriate qualification pathways are available for KS4 and KS5 pupils.

Requirements

  • Qualified teacher status or equivalent.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Computing.
  • Commitment to working with autistic pupils and a willingness to undertake specialist training.
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that meet individual pupil needs.
  • Willingness to collaborate with therapists and other professionals.
  • Full-time availability; restricted hours cannot be accommodated.
  • No sponsorship is available for this position.
