About the school

O Castro British International School is a happy, inclusive and successful school in Vigo, Spain with over 700 students in Primary and Secondary. The school follows the National Curriculum for England and the Cambridge International Curriculum for KS3 in English, Maths and Science, together with IGCSE and A Levels.

The role

O Castro British International School is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and skilled Designated Safeguarding Lead to join the team.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring the school complies fully with statutory guidance such as Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and relevant local authority procedures.
  • Act as the main point of contact for all safeguarding concerns, providing advice, support and guidance to staff, pupils and parents.
  • Receive, record and manage safeguarding disclosures and referrals, ensuring timely action, secure record-keeping and appropriate escalation to external agencies when required.
  • Oversee and contribute to the development, implementation and regular review of the school’s safeguarding policies, procedures and risk assessments.
  • Work closely with senior leadership, pastoral staff, external services and multi-agency partners to ensure a holistic approach to pupil welfare and protection.
  • Monitor patterns and trends in safeguarding concerns and provide reports and recommendations to school leadership and governing bodies.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive and vigilant school culture where every child feels supported, listened to and protected.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • C1/C2 level of English.
  • Degree in Education, English or a related field.
  • Completed specialised DSL/Level 3 safeguarding training.
  • Successful applicants will have undertaken an enhanced safeguarding check and local police checks.
