The role
The EAL Coordinator will lead and develop the school's whole-school EAL strategy, identifying, assessing, and tracking multilingual learners, and designing and overseeing targeted interventions. The postholder will support classroom teachers with adaptive teaching strategies, deliver CPD on effective EAL pedagogy, monitor student progress, liaise with parents and external stakeholders, and maintain accurate records in line with school and ADEK requirements. The position commences August 2026.
Key responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy
- Develop and implement the school's EAL framework, ensuring early identification and screening of multilingual learners.
- Oversee the use of appropriate assessment tools to determine proficiency levels and align provision with the Tiered Model of Support.
Teaching and Learning
- Deliver targeted EAL support through push-in and pull-out models as appropriate.
- Support teachers in adapting curriculum content, promote inclusive classroom practice, and foster language-rich learning environments.
- Provide dedicated support to students transitioning into the school.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Track the progress of EAL students and report termly while maintaining accurate student records.
- Evaluate the impact of interventions and adjust provision to ensure continued improvement.
Collaboration
- Work closely with the Inclusion team, Senior Leadership Team, and Phase Leaders.
- Provide CPD for teaching staff and build strong relationships with families.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrable experience teaching within a British curriculum school.
- Strong background in working with multilingual learners and a thorough understanding of EAL pedagogy and language acquisition theory.
- Proven experience leading interventions or coordinating educational provision.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with experience delivering CPD to colleagues.
- Experience using standardised assessment tools for language proficiency and a background in international school settings are advantageous.
