The role
Amity International School, Abu Dhabi, invites applications from well-qualified, enthusiastic, and highly motivated professionals for the position of EAL Coordinator. The EAL Coordinator will be responsible for leading and developing the school's whole-school EAL strategy, identifying, assessing, and tracking multilingual learners, and designing and overseeing targeted EAL interventions. The postholder will support classroom teachers with adaptive teaching strategies, deliver continuing professional development on effective EAL pedagogy, and monitor student progress and the impact of interventions. The role also requires liaising with parents and external stakeholders where appropriate and maintaining accurate records in line with school and ADEK requirements. Start date: September 2026.
Key responsibilities
Leadership and strategy
- Develop and implement the school's EAL framework, ensuring the early identification and screening of multilingual learners.
- Oversee the use of appropriate assessment tools to determine proficiency levels and ensure all provision aligns with the Tiered Model of Support.
Teaching and learning
- Deliver targeted EAL support through both push-in and pull-out models as appropriate.
- Support teachers in adapting curriculum content for multilingual learners and promote inclusive classroom practice.
- Foster language-rich learning environments and provide dedicated support to students transitioning into the school.
Monitoring and reporting
- Track the progress of EAL students and report termly, maintaining accurate and up-to-date student records.
- Evaluate the impact of interventions and adjust provision accordingly to ensure continued improvement.
Collaboration
- Work closely with the Inclusion team, Senior Leadership Team, and Phase Leaders.
- Provide CPD for teaching staff and build strong, supportive relationships with families.
Requirements
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent qualification, with demonstrable experience teaching within a British curriculum school.
- Strong background in working with multilingual learners and a thorough understanding of EAL pedagogy and language acquisition theory.
- Proven experience leading interventions or coordinating educational provision.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills, with experience in delivering CPD to colleagues.
- Experience using standardised assessment tools for language proficiency and a background in international school settings are desirable.
- Full commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils, in line with the recommendations of the International Task Force on Child Protection.
- Successful completion of child protection screening and provision of a current criminal records check, or equivalent, prior to appointment.
- Provision of a minimum of two professional references, at least one from the Headteacher or Principal of the applicant's most recent school.
