The role

Linden Hall High School seeks a full-time IB DP Science Teacher (Biology / Chemistry). The position is based in the Science department and focuses on teaching the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Depending on the candidate's qualifications, there may also be opportunities to teach lower secondary science courses.

Key responsibilities

  • Teach IBDP Science, with emphasis on Biology and Chemistry, to classes of 10–20 high school students in line with the IB DP curriculum.
  • Foster critical thinking, inquiry-based learning and scientific understanding.
  • Prepare lower secondary students for progression into the IB Diploma Programme.
  • Develop curriculum, lesson plans, assessments and examinations, and evaluate student work.
  • Support students with Internal Assessments, Extended Essays and IB final examinations where appropriate.
  • Serve as assistant homeroom teacher for one class alongside a Japanese homeroom teacher.
  • Participate in school events, including Open School and Summer Camp, and supervise extracurricular or service-learning activities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and stakeholders regarding student progress and well-being.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties assigned by the IBDP Coordinator or school administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a science field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching licence or teaching qualification.
  • At least one year of teaching experience with the IB curriculum preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of biology and chemistry concepts relevant to the IB DP syllabus.
  • Experience in an international school setting preferred.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Basic conversational Japanese (approximately JLPT N4 level) desirable but not essential.
  • Passion for teaching science and inspiring young learners.
  • Ability to create a positive, engaging and inclusive learning environment.

Benefits & package

  • Monthly salary of approximately JPY 370,000 (annual salary approximately JPY 4.5 million).

  • Ten days of paid annual leave after six months of employment.
