The role

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Geography teacher to join our exceptional team. The successful candidate will be ambitious, excited about further developing a department, and eager to contribute to a high-performing team. The postholder will deliver consistently excellent geography teaching that inspires curiosity about the world, develops students’ understanding of physical and human processes, and secures strong progress for every student. The role includes contributing to the development of geography across the growing secondary phase and upholding the values, standards and wider strategic vision of GEMS Royal Dubai School. The position commences August 2027.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver consistently excellent, engaging geography lessons aligned with the NCfE, using strong subject knowledge and effective pedagogy to develop students’ understanding of physical and human geography, geographical enquiry, fieldwork, data interpretation and critical thinking in an international context.
  • Set high expectations for achievement, behaviour and participation, creating a safe, inclusive and purposeful learning environment in which every student can succeed.
  • Use assessment effectively to adapt teaching, provide meaningful feedback, track progress and implement timely intervention.
  • Develop geography curriculum planning, resourcing, assessment and moderation, including fieldwork opportunities and preparation for future GCSE Geography and post-16 pathways as the secondary phase grows.
  • Build strong relationships with students, colleagues and families, working collaboratively and communicating progress clearly.
  • Contribute actively to the wider life and culture of the school through pastoral responsibilities, enrichment, extra-curricular activities and community events.
  • Demonstrate a reflective, solution-focused High-Performance mindset and engage fully in professional learning, coaching, appraisal and quality assurance.
  • Promote and safeguard students’ welfare and personal development, following all school policies, procedures and reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • A recognised teaching qualification and degree in Geography or a closely related subject.
  • Experience of teaching geography at secondary level, including GCSE Geography, and the ambition to grow a department.
  • A proven record of securing strong student outcomes.
  • Excellent classroom practice, behaviour management and communication skills.
  • The ambition, adaptability and collaborative mindset required to contribute to a growing secondary school.
