most promising young alpine athletes, nurturing excellence on the slopes, in the
classroom and in their daily lives. Set in the French Alps, with its unrivalled location nestled in one of the largest ski domaines in the world, Tignes, France.
The Role
The Head of House and Wellbeing is a senior leadership role responsible for the pastoral care, safeguarding, wellbeing and residential life of athletes at Apex2100.
The role ensures that all athletes are supported to Learn, Train and Perform in a safe, structured, and caring environment, balancing the demands of high‑performance sport with personal development, mental health, and welfare.
This role plays a critical part in protecting athlete wellbeing, leading the House team, and embedding Apex values across daily life.
Key Responsibilities
Pastoral Leadership & Wellbeing
Provide strategic leadership for athlete wellbeing across the Academy.
Ensure every athlete feels safe, supported, and known within the House system.
Lead a culture that promotes:
Emotional wellbeing
Personal responsibility
Respect, inclusion, and community
Monitor athlete welfare and intervene early where concerns arise.
House System & Residential Life
Lead and manage the House & Wellbeing team, including Houseparents and House Assistants.
Ensure high standards of care, supervision, and structure within boarding environments.
Oversee:
Daily routines
Evening supervision
Behaviour standards
House culture and expectations
Support staff to act consistently and professionally within pastoral roles.
Safeguarding & Child Protection
Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for Apex2100.
Ensure safeguarding policies are:
Understood
Implemented
Reviewed and followed across the Academy
Respond to safeguarding concerns in line with Apex procedures and legal requirements.
Liaise with external agencies where required and maintain accurate records.
Liaison with Parents & Staff
Serve as a key point of contact for parents regarding wellbeing and pastoral matters.
Build strong, professional relationships with families based on trust and clarity.
Work closely with:

Teaching & Learning
Medical and performance staff
Ensure information is shared appropriately, confidentially, and consistently.
Behaviour, Conduct & Standards
Set clear expectations around athlete behaviour and conduct.
Support athletes through challenges using restorative and developmental approaches.
Address issues calmly, fairly, and consistently.
Ensure House staff uphold Apex professional and safeguarding standards at all times.
Leadership & Contribution to Academy Life
Be an active member of the senior leadership team.
Contribute to policy development relating to wellbeing, safeguarding, and residential life.
Support staff wellbeing and model professional leadership behaviours.
Participate in duty rotas and Academy events as required.
Person Specification
Essential
Proven experience in pastoral leadership, boarding, or youth welfare environments
Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
Ability to lead, support, and manage staff effectively
Calm, empathetic, and authoritative leadership style
Excellent communication skills with young people, parents, and colleagues
Ability to work in a high‑performance, fast‑paced environment
Desirable
Experience in elite sport, education, or residential settings
Mental health or wellbeing training
Previous experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead
Multilingual (English essential; French an advantage)
