The role

We are seeking an experienced and inspirational Head of Infants to lead the Infants department and school provision in Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception. This is a maternity cover position. The successful candidate will be an experienced Infants practitioner with a strong background in the EYFS, Development Matters and IEYC curricula. Working closely with the Head of Primary, the post holder will provide strong educational leadership to ensure consistently high-quality teaching, learning and pastoral care. Central to the role is a commitment to Amazing Learning, ensuring every child experiences learning that leads to significant progress and develops confidence, curiosity and independence.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Infants department, including Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception.
• Ensure consistently high-quality teaching, learning and pastoral care across the Infants section.
• Inspire, lead and develop teachers and learning assistants.
• Contribute to the direction and development of the Infants programme as part of the primary team.
• Support the school’s after-school programme and participate in events and activities throughout the year.
• Promote child-centred education with high levels of pastoral care and an inclusive approach.
• Raise attainment across all ability levels and support students from a range of backgrounds and with varying needs.

Requirements

• Experienced Infants practitioner with a strong background in the EYFS, Development Matters and IEYC curricula.
• Proven ability to inspire, lead and develop teaching staff.
• Strong commitment to educating the whole child and delivering high levels of pastoral care.
• Evidence of being a strong team player with the ability to adapt quickly to new situations and demonstrate a flexible approach to problem solving.
• Interest in raising attainment across all ability levels.
• Commitment to the life of the school through participation in the after-school programme and wider events.
