Head of Primary German (m/f/d)

St. George’s School is looking for a dynamic lead for the German department for our Primary School starting in August 2026.

The School

Having opened in September 2013, St. George’s School Munich has rapidly developed into a thriving community of over 800 pupils and 100 teachers. The school’s ethos of combining an enriching curriculum with family orientated care makes the school a warm and engaging place to work and learn.

In September 2017, the school embarked on an exciting phase of its development, as it moved to a new, purpose-built campus located in the city. These premises provide first-class educational facilities for all ages and subject areas.

The National Curriculum is taught throughout the school and we offer IGCSE qualifications to pupils in our Upper School. Students in the Sixth Form prepare the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

One of a group of three schools located across Germany, St. George’s offers the successful applicant an exciting range of opportunities for professional development and growth across the school group.

The Location

The school’s new campus is located in the area of Schwabing-Freimann, to the north of the city centre. The site enjoys good access to the U6 metro line, as well as the A9 motorway.

Germany’s third largest city, and the capital of the state of Bavaria, Munich is a dynamic and vibrant cultural centre, with a large and diverse international community. Situated on the northern edge of the Alps, Munich offers a high standard of living, as well as numerous opportunities for travel and outdoor pursuits.

Munich airport is located 30km from the school, with many daily flights to the UK, and high speed rail services connect Munich to a wide range of European destinations.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint an experienced professional to lead the German Department in our Primary School. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and forward thinking professional.

The successful applicant will be a dynamic teacher with previous leadership experience. We are looking for the right balance between experience, enthusiasm and a passion for teaching and learning which will inspire students and colleagues.

Fluency in English and familiarity with the English National Curriculum are a prerequisite. A strong desire to contribute to the rich extra-curricular life of the department is also an advantage.

Given the growing and developing nature of the school, flexibility and the desire to support other team members is essential. A strong desire to contribute to the rich pastoral and extra-curricular life of the school will also be an advantage.

German is a core element of the curriculum and is compulsory for all pupils in the primary school. Although the working language of the school is English, there is a clear expectation that all pupils maintain a high level of fluency and literacy in our local language.

German is taught at a range of differentiated levels, with classes split between those learning German as a first language, and those learning as a second language. Second language learners follow an accelerated course, and it is our aim that all learners achieve proficiency in the language. First language learners follow the local curriculum for German.
