About Apex2100
Apex is an international ski academy with a mission to develop and support the world’s
most promising young alpine athletes, nurturing excellence on the slopes, in the
classroom and in their daily lives. Set in the French Alps, with its unrivalled location nestled in one of the largest ski domaines in the world, Tignes, France.
The Role
The Houseparent plays a central role in the daily care, supervision, and wellbeing of athletes living within the Apex2100 boarding environment.
Acting in loco parentis, the Houseparent ensures that athletes are safe, supported, and well‑cared‑for outside of training and academic hours, contributing directly to a positive, structured, and nurturing boarding experience within a high‑performance sporting environment.
Key Responsibilities
Pastoral Care & Athlete Wellbeing
Provide day‑to‑day pastoral support for athletes within the boarding house.
Build strong, trusting relationships with athletes, offering guidance, reassurance, and care.
Monitor emotional wellbeing and raise concerns promptly to the Head of House and Wellbeing.
Support athletes through homesickness, injury, illness, fatigue, or personal challenges.
Residential Supervision & Duty
Ensure appropriate supervision of athletes during evenings, nights, and designated duty periods.
Be available to athletes outside standard working hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by the duty rota.
Ensure that at least one responsible adult is present in the boarding house overnight.
Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies or unexpected situations.
Behaviour, Conduct & House Standards
Uphold Apex standards of behaviour, respect, and conduct within the house.
Address behavioural issues in a firm, fair, and supportive manner.
Maintain a calm, purposeful atmosphere that supports rest, recovery, and personal responsibility.
Record incidents, concerns, and follow‑up actions accurately in line with Apex procedures.
Safeguarding & Professional Responsibility
Promote and safeguard the welfare of all athletes at all times.
Follow Apex safeguarding and child‑protection policies strictly.
Maintain clear, professional boundaries with athletes.
Report any safeguarding or welfare concerns immediately to the Head of House and Wellbeing or Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Communication & Teamwork
Communicate effectively with:
Head of House and Wellbeing
House Assistants
Teaching, coaching, and medical teams
Liaise with parents where appropriate, following agreed communication pathways.
Contribute positively to the wider House & Wellbeing team culture.
House Organisation & Daily Life
Support the smooth running of the boarding house, including:
Mealtimes and routines
Room checks and house organisation
Supporting injured or resting athletes
Ensure the house environment is welcoming, orderly, and safe.
Person Specification
Essential
· Experience working with children or young people in a pastoral, residential, or care‑based role
· Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
· Calm, reliable, and professional approach
· Ability to work unsocial hours, including evenings and weekends
· Commitment to safeguarding and athlete wellbeing
Desirable
· Experience in a boarding school, academy, or sports environment
· Safeguarding or first‑aid training
· Experience supporting adolescents in high‑pressure environments
· French language skills (advantageous but not essential)
