The role

The Grange School seeks a KS2 Science Teacher for a fixed-term contract from September to August 2027. The successful candidate will provide leadership of teaching and learning in Science from Pre-School through to Year 6. This includes the development and implementation of academic programmes, the embedding of Science across daily school life and the promotion of Science-based enrichment activities. The post holder will also support colleagues who teach Science to younger pupils and will take responsibility for the care and effective use of the school’s dedicated Science Laboratory.

Key responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan, organise and deliver weekly and daily programmes of learning for all timetabled Science lessons, using varied delivery methods based on the school’s schemes of work.
  • Create a stimulating classroom environment in which resources are accessible to all children and practical, hands-on experimental work is central.
  • Provide extension opportunities for more able pupils and appropriate support for those requiring additional learning assistance.
  • Assess and record pupil development, using data to refine teaching and set clear targets based on prior attainment.
  • Maintain high standards of content and presentation in pupils’ work through high-quality classroom displays.
  • Report pupil progress to parents and colleagues through written reports, Parents’ Evenings and informal channels.
  • Liaise with the Key Stage Leader, Head of Learning Support and Deputy Head Academic on individual and collective pupil progress.
  • Integrate technology, including AI, effectively into teaching and learning activities.
  • Organise visitors and educational visits to enrich the curriculum and maintain up-to-date professional knowledge.

Pastoral Care

  • Share responsibility for the pastoral care and well-being of all children, working collaboratively with the pastoral team.
  • Know the individual strengths, personalities and needs of each child and actively promote every pupil’s success and achievement.
  • Support the development of positive attitudes, behaviour and attendance in line with school policies.
  • Keep parents informed of relevant matters and respond promptly to queries.
  • Contribute to the integration of PSHE and the school’s assembly programme.

General

  • Contribute positively to the whole staff team and effective working relationships across the school.
  • Provide at least one hour per week to the school’s enrichment programme.
  • Attend Open Mornings, Parents’ Evenings, Prizegiving and other official school events.
  • Support the organisation of educational visits, including residential trips, and undertake supervisory duties as required.
  • Address safety issues, complete risk assessments and ensure adherence to all school policies and procedures.
