Language Teacher - Spanish/French + a second language Basic
The role
Canadian School of Milan seeks a well-qualified and dedicated Spanish/French Language Teacher with a second language (Italian or English) to join its Languages Department. The successful candidate will teach IB Diploma, iGCSE and middle school students. Experience of the IB curriculum is an advantage, as is the ability to offer a second subject.
Key responsibilities
- Teach across iGCSE (Grades 9-10) and IB Diploma (Grades 11-12) programmes to mixed-ability classes drawn from a wide range of cultural and educational backgrounds.
- Identify and adopt effective active and creative teaching approaches in line with current best practice and the ethos of the school.
- Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring diversity and inclusivity are incorporated into student learning experiences.
- Work with faculty colleagues to apply consistent standards in curriculum planning, delivery, formative and summative assessment, standardisation and moderation.
- Set, communicate and assess homework regularly in line with school and department policy.
- Support students with learning support or EAL needs and teach study skills that develop independent learning.
- Monitor, assess and report on learners’ work and progress according to school policy.
- Chaperone or lead student field trips and take learning outside the classroom where appropriate.
- Participate in assemblies, staff meetings, parent-teacher meetings and planning days.
- Act as homeroom teacher if required and contribute to the school’s extra-curricular programme.
- Supervise students for CAS or the Extended Essay as required.
- Play an active role in safeguarding, attendance, academic monitoring and upholding the Student Code of Conduct.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a recognised teaching qualification (UK PGCE, Bachelor of Education or QTS) from Canada, the UK or the USA.
- Minimum of two years’ recent and relevant experience in a comparable school environment.
- Knowledge of IB and iGCSE programmes.
- English mother tongue or outstanding communication skills in English, both oral and written.
- Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal and organisational skills.
- IT competence, including Google Apps for Education, and willingness to use school databases.
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility, reliability, initiative and a strong work ethic both individually and as a team member.
- Commitment to professional growth and contribution to colleagues’ development.
- Willingness to undergo child protection screening, including checks with previous employers and criminal records checks.
