Lead Teacher for Secondary PE and SHES (Sports, Health and Exercise Science )

As the school continues to grow, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Teacher of PE, with the ability to teach Sports. Health and Exercise Science at IB level, to join us at The British College of Andorra, in the heart of the Pyrenees mountains. 

We are looking for an inspirational teacher who believes that every child must access and can enjoy success in physical education. Their pedagogy will begin from an enquiry-based approach, connecting theory and practice. They will have a developed understanding of the difference between performance and learning, and a broad and knowledgable approach to assessment and feedback. They will readily integrate technology into teaching and learning. They will have an inclusive and broad-minded approach to the teaching of PE (current units include dance and orienteering alongside the more traditional offerings). As lead Secondary PE teacher, they will bring energy and vision to the position.

Candidate Specifications:  

Qualified Teacher Status - essential  

Relevant Master’s degree - essential  

Strong outreach skills to build links between schools for PE and sports collaboration. - essential

Specialism, and the ability to teach to pre-university level, in Sports Health and Exercise Science (IB Diploma)- essential.

Experience teaching English as an Additional Language students - desirable

Spanish skills or the willingness to quickly learn- desirable

Willingness to contribute to the school's extra-curricular programme (e.g. outdoor activities, Duke of Edinburgh Award, sports, MUN)- desirable. 

This post is  to teach PE to students aged 11 -18 years old (Years 7-13/Grades 6-12) following the English National Curriculum, and then the IB SHES course.. 

The post offers a unique opportunity to live in a spectacular natural environment with outdoor pursuits such as skiing, cycling, trail running, climbing and mountain walking on your doorstep, and with low tax advantages. The school, which currently has 300 students and is set to grow significantly over the coming years, is situated just outside Andorra la Vella in a stunning mountainside location. We are 3 hours by road (excellent transport connections) from Barcelona and Toulouse.
