About the school

Al Basma British School is a popular and over-subscribed, high performing ENC School. The seven-form entry school currently caters for more than 2000 children from FS1 to Y13. A state-of-the-art Primary block for Y3 to Y6 opened in September 2020.

The school follows the National Curriculum of England and, in EYFS, the updated 2020 Development Matters Framework. GL CAT4 and GL Progress tests are used for Years 4 to 10. A range of GCSE, iGCSE, iAS and iA Level qualifications from Cambridge, Edexcel and Pearson exam boards are offered to older students, alongside newly introduced BTEC qualifications.

The school gained BSO accreditation in May 2016 and achieved a ‘Good’ rating with an increased number of outstanding features in May 2022. Since January 2017 the school has consistently achieved Band A gradings in ADEK Irtiq’aa inspections, most recently consolidating its Very Good ADEK grading in February 2022 with a significant number of features graded outstanding.

Al Basma is located in the quiet and safe neighbourhood of Al Bahia in Abu Dhabi, near the international airport and Yas Island. Dubai is a 35-minute drive from the school.

The role

Due to an extended maternity leave, Al Basma British School seeks a talented maths specialist to join the team on a permanent basis. The position is full time with a two-year renewable contract commencing August 2026.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a genuine commitment to creating an inspiring and stimulating child-centred learning environment. They will be highly motivated, exemplary practitioners with a deep understanding of personalised learning, and committed to ongoing school improvement within a climate of innovative and creative development.

Requirements

• An internationally recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Y7 to 13 Secondary Education with Maths specialism and QTS or equivalent, or
• An internationally recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Maths or a closely related subject together with an internationally recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE or PGDE in Secondary Maths and QTS or equivalent, or
• An internationally recognised Bachelor’s Degree in any subject together with an internationally recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE or PGDE in Secondary Maths with QTS or equivalent and two years of experience teaching Secondary Maths.
• All qualifications must be attested for the UAE prior to arrival.
• Two supporting references, including the most recent employer, and a police clearance certificate (ACRO or DBS) no more than three months old must be provided by successful applicants.
• Candidates travelling without dependents or with a spouse holding their own international package will benefit most from the package.
