The role

Maths Teacher (Maternity cover), 3 Dimensions School, Chard, Somerset, TA20 1PB. Salary ยฃ39,500 per annum. Fixed-term contract until July 2027, term time only. 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm. Start date September 2026. UK applicants only; no sponsorship available.

We are seeking a creative and compassionate Maths teacher who can deliver engaging, personalised learning for students with special educational needs. The successful candidate will build trusting relationships, adapt teaching to individual EHCP outcomes and help learners make meaningful academic, social and emotional progress.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, differentiated Maths lessons across KS3, KS4 and Post-16.
  • Teach a blend of functional maths, Entry Level, GCSE where appropriate, and real-life numeracy.
  • Adapt teaching to meet EHCP outcomes and individual learning profiles.
  • Use creative strategies including visual scaffolding, chunking, practical resources and overlearning.
  • Embed trauma-informed, low-arousal approaches to support regulation and engagement.
  • Track progress, identify gaps and celebrate student success.
  • Build strong, positive relationships that help students feel safe, confident and ready to learn.

Requirements

  • QTS or working towards QTS.
  • Experience teaching or supporting Maths learning.
  • Experience in SEN or alternative provision.
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills, Entry Level or GCSE Maths.
  • Understanding of EHCPs and preparation for adulthood.
  • Strong ability to differentiate for a wide range of needs.
  • Excellent relationship-building and classroom management skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive, child-centred education.
  • Full driving licence.
