About the school
Parkside House School is an SEMH independent special school with sites in Backworth and Ashington. The school provides specialist teaching, small class sizes, bespoke timetables and a nurturing environment for pupils aged from Year 6 to KS5. Students present with social, emotional and mental health needs and associated learning difficulties, including autism, ADHD, attachment disorders and oppositional defiance disorder. Pupils are supported to thrive academically, socially and personally by a dedicated and experienced team.
The role
Parkside House School seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated Maths Teacher to join its specialist team from September 2026. The successful candidate will deliver engaging, personalised mathematics lessons that build confidence and help pupils with autism and additional learning needs achieve more than they thought possible. This permanent, term-time-only position is based at the Ashington site (NE63 8AP) and offers a salary of up to £44,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, creative Maths lessons that inspire curiosity and achievement.
- Plan and adapt learning to meet the individual needs of pupils with autism and additional learning difficulties.
- Monitor, assess and celebrate pupil progress, using assessment to inform future planning.
- Create a positive, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
- Support pupils’ academic, social and emotional development through strong relationships and personalised approaches.
- Contribute to the development of the Maths curriculum and whole-school improvement.
- Collaborate effectively with teaching assistants, therapists, families and colleagues.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a relevant degree in Mathematics.
- Passion for inspiring young people and making a genuine difference.
- Experience of, or willingness to develop expertise in, supporting pupils with autism, learning difficulties or additional needs.
- Creative, adaptable and able to tailor learning to individual pupils.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Calm, patient and resilient, with the capacity to build positive relationships and motivate learners.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Benefits & package
- Salary up to £44,000 per annum (depending on experience).
