We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and well qualified modern music teacher to join our busy and successful music department.
Tring Park School for the Performing Arts offers a uniquely blended education which combines teaching pupils in KS3, GCSE and A-level class settings with an extraordinary vocational training in the performing arts where pupils spend half of their working day in practical music, dance and drama sessions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to deliver music lessons and sessions across both strands of the school. Your ability, or your aspiration, to teach Music Technology A-level, and to deliver vocational sessions to our Commercial Music Course students will be advantageous.
Main duties:
Assist in the delivery of the music curriculum from KS3 up to A-level, including the A-level Music Technology course (Edexcel).
Assist in the delivery of the vocational Commercial Music Course.
Take responsibility for an agreed part of the planning of the music curriculum.
Use a variety of teaching methods which keep students challenged and engaged, including stimulating their intellectual / musical curiosity.
To mark students’ work giving appropriate, timely, and constructive feedback.
Maintain a ‘teacher planner’ and curriculum planning documents, including the recording of attainment and effort marks, Prep/homework set, student attendance.
Be accountable for the attainment, progress and outcomes of pupils you teach.
Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons.
To research new topic areas, maintain up-to-date subject knowledge, and devise and write new curriculum materials.
Have working knowledge of Music Technology DAW applications such as Ableton/Logic Pro/Cubase, and score-writing applications such Sibelius/Muse-Score.
Have excellent classroom management skills and maintain standards of discipline according to the school’s codes of conduct and in line with the school’s rewards and sanctions programmes.
Be a dedicated team-player, who strives for excellence, supports colleagues, takes initiative and leads students by example.
Contribute significantly to the programme of concerts, performances, and the provision of music for high-profile events.
To rehearse ensembles in preparation for performances.
To prepare reports on students’ progress, and attend parent consultations when required.
Enhance the quality of teaching and learning through sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and active participation in continuing professional development.
Actively promote the well-being of all pupils and be familiar with, and uphold, all Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures of the school.
Other duties:
To liaise with administrative, academic and pastoral staff as necessary.
Adhere to and promote all the school's policies and procedures.
To attend staff meetings, in-service training and conferences regularly to keep up to date with new initiatives in industry, teaching and training.
To undertake any other reasonable duties at the request of the Principal.
Person Specification
Degree level qualification and demonstrable academic achievement.
A high level of practical and theoretical musicianship.
A knowledge of Commercial Music and Music Technology.
Experience of planning and teaching in a secondary music setting – this role is suitable for either ECTs or experienced teachers.
The ability to promote good progress and outcomes in their students.
The ability to manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.
A high level of ICT competency.
Positive values and attitudes, reliability, integrity, a clear commitment to working as a team.
