About the school
Runnymede College is a private non-denominational British school in Madrid offering a British education to boys and girls of all nationalities from the age of two to eighteen. The education offered follows the British National Curriculum. Founded in September 1967, the primary school was inaugurated in 1987, and since 1990 the whole School has been located in La Moraleja, in the north of Madrid. The School is divided into Pre-Prep (Pre Nursery to Year 3), Prep (Years 4 to 8) and Senior School (Years 9 to 13).
Academic levels are high at Runnymede College. In June 2026, 85% of students achieved A*-B at A level. In addition, 72% of pupils gained 7-9 (A/A*) grades at IGCSE. In the graduating class of 2026, just over half of pupils will be attending UK universities, 89% of them to Russell Group institutions. The most popular destination was St Andrews, followed by UCL, LSE, Oxford, Edinburgh and Warwick. Most remaining students have chosen the US, with five starting at Ivy League universities and others at Stanford, Boston College and Tufts. A similar number will be staying in Spain at elite institutions including ICADE, IE and ICAI.
The role
The school is looking to recruit an outstanding Profesor/a de Lengua y Literatura Castellana y Español como Lengua Extranjera to join the Senior School from September 2026. The successful candidate will be passionate about Spanish Language, Literature, Geography, History and Culture and committed to achieving the very best for pupils at all levels. They will be able to engage and motivate pupils using effective methods of teaching and differentiation. Any candidate should be willing to play an active role in the co-curricular life of the school.
Requirements
- Título universitario de Grado o Licenciatura en Filología from a Spanish University
- A qualified teaching certificate - Máster en Formación del Profesorado de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato or CAP
- Excellent teamwork skills and willingness to collaborate on planning and resourcing
- Ability to modify learning strategies to target the needs of individual students
- High expectations of pupils’ effort and behaviour, facilitated with proven classroom management skills
- Organised and able to prioritise to meet deadlines
- Motivated and able to use initiative to contribute to the success of the department
- Native level Spanish speaker
- Very good level of English (C1 or equivalent)
- Good working knowledge of ICT systems and the application of ICT in the classroom
Previous experience of an international school or previous teaching experience in a British School is preferable but not essential.
