About the school
The British School of Barcelona (BSB) is an HMC school judged outstanding in every area by a recent BSO inspection, including quality of education, safeguarding, pupil welfare and academic outcomes. The school serves over 2000 pupils aged 3 to 18 from more than 74 nationalities across campuses in Castelldefels, Sitges and central Barcelona. The role
We are seeking a full-time, temporary Science Teacher for a paternity cover position at the BSB Castelldefels campus, starting in October 2026. The campus delivers IGCSE Triple and Double Award Science as well as IBDP and A Level programmes. Facilities include six well-resourced laboratories and a bespoke STEAM centre for Years 12 and 13. The school places strong emphasis on scientific education that fosters curiosity and critical thinking, and it welcomes a teacher who can inspire students both inside and outside the classroom while contributing to the extracurricular programme.
Key responsibilities
- Teach Science at KS3 and double science at KS4, delivering outstanding, innovative and inspirational lessons.
- Maintain high expectations of all students and track progress using relevant data, observations and a wide range of assessments.
- Assess students’ work in line with school policies and support intervention programmes where needed.
- Support collaborative departmental planning and the development of an engaging curriculum.
- Contribute to robust formative assessment systems and the professional development of colleagues.
- Act as a tutor, providing pastoral care for a form group, and attend staff meetings, briefings, assemblies, open evenings and parents’ evenings.
- Participate in the school’s staff development and performance management programme and contribute to the extracurricular programme.
Requirements
- Proven track record of teaching Biology at GCSE and IBDP or A Level standard.
- Ability to teach KS3 Science and an additional area of IGCSE Double Award Science is desirable.
