About the school

Compass Community School Athelstan Park is located in Westbury, Wiltshire. Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds, but all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). Many will also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties.

The work we do is both varied and challenging. As a trauma and attachment informed organisation, all staff are provided with extensive therapeutic training and support. Our closely triangulated approach places the child at the centre of decision making, ensuring that education and therapy professionals, parents and carers, local authority teams and our students work together to secure outstanding outcomes for all.

The role

We are looking for a Science Teacher. We are all primarily teachers of children before teachers of subjects. Central to this role is knowing the child, building professional, nurturing and positive relationships and motivating students.

Our Science curricula span Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 3 and GCSE. You will be supported by national subject champions who help staff become experts in facilitating learning for the children they know best.

Teachers inspire children, creating a sense of awe and wonder and making subjects and lessons real and relevant. They plan exciting and engaging learning opportunities which challenge and stretch students, whether they are working on the very basics or demonstrate a special talent or passion for the subject.

Key responsibilities

• Build professional, nurturing and positive relationships with students who have SEMH and SEND needs.
• Deliver the Science curriculum across Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 3 and GCSE.
• Plan and deliver exciting, engaging and appropriately challenging learning opportunities.
• Manage complex and challenging behaviours with consistency, flexibility and a non-judgemental approach.
• Contribute to school decision making and the development of both the academic curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities.

Requirements

• Science specialist with the ability to teach across Entry Level to GCSE.
• Experience of, or willingness to work with, children who have SEMH and SEND needs.
• Ability to manage complex and challenging behaviours while maintaining a nurturing approach.
• Hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS check for Regulated Activity.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
