The role

Avonside School seeks a passionate and creative SEN Teacher to join its team from October 2026. This permanent, term-time-only position is based at Avonside School, Bristol BS4 5PS and offers a salary of up to £45,000 per annum depending on experience. The role is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.00pm. UK applicants only; no sponsorship is available.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging, personalised learning for pupils with a range of additional and complex needs while helping to shape the school’s curriculum and culture from its earliest stages. The position involves close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to support excellent outcomes for every pupil.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, high-quality lessons that inspire pupils and support excellent progress.
  • Adapt teaching to meet the individual needs of learners with a range of additional and complex needs.
  • Plan, develop and review schemes of learning across the curriculum area.
  • Monitor pupil progress, using assessment to identify interventions and celebrate achievement.
  • Lead the development of the subject area, ensuring teaching remains creative, innovative and engaging.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the school and the wider Outcomes First Group to share best practice.
  • Support colleagues through training and the sharing of effective teaching strategies.
  • Work closely with the Exams Officer to ensure accurate qualification entries and successful outcomes.
  • Teach across a range of subjects where required to support curriculum delivery.
  • Work alongside therapists, Learning Support Assistants, families and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide a consistent, holistic approach to each pupil’s education.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience teaching within an educational setting.
  • Ability to confidently plan, deliver and adapt engaging lessons for pupils with a range of learning needs.
  • Passion for inclusive education and a belief that every child can achieve.
  • Creative, flexible and committed to delivering personalised learning experiences.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
  • Enjoyment of collaborative working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
