The role
Aldar Education seeks an outstanding Teacher of Design and Technology for Yas American Academy commencing August 2026. The successful candidate will inspire, engage and challenge students by delivering high-quality teaching and inclusive learning experiences that spark curiosity, encourage creativity and support academic, social and personal development.
Key responsibilities
- Demonstrate strong subject knowledge, delivering high-quality teaching across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, including GCSE, A Level and BTEC pathways where appropriate.
- Deliver engaging and well-structured lessons that develop students’ knowledge, investigative skills, critical thinking and understanding of real-world applications.
- Plan and deliver schemes of work aligned with the UK National Curriculum at KS3 and with the requirements of examination boards at KS4 and KS5.
- Prepare students effectively for external qualifications including IGCSE, A Level and BTEC qualifications.
- Promote enquiry through practical investigations, experimentation, observation and data analysis.
- Provide high-quality guidance and feedback during coursework and practical assessments.
- Plan lessons that meet the needs of all learners, ensuring appropriate challenge and support across the full ability range.
- Use assessment effectively to monitor progress, inform planning and support students in achieving their potential.
- Develop students’ independence, resilience and problem-solving skills through investigative and practical learning experiences.
- Maintain high standards of safety and ensure students follow safe working practices.
- Use a range of teaching strategies, including digital technology and blended learning approaches, to enhance engagement.
- Support the needs of all learners, including those with SEND, EAL and G&T students, through effective differentiation.
- Monitor and track student progress using assessment data to inform teaching and identify students requiring additional challenge or support.
- Provide clear and constructive feedback that supports improvement in knowledge, skills and examination performance.
- Follow the school’s behaviour policy and maintain high expectations for student conduct.
- Build positive relationships with students, encouraging respect, responsibility and independence.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school through enrichment activities, clubs and competitions.
- Participate in departmental planning, professional development and collaborative working with colleagues.
- Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, child protection and professional conduct at all times.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related subject with PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role.
- Mandatory experience working in an international school.
- Experience working with EAL students.
- Recent and consistent involvement in extra-curricular activities.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with parents in a diverse, multi-cultural environment.
- Approachable, professional, calm and knowledgeable, with a passion for teaching and a child-centred approach.
