The role
The Teacher of Business and Economics will deliver high-quality teaching across Key Stages 3, 4 and, where required, Key Stage 5. The role focuses on developing strong subject knowledge, analytical thinking and real-world application so that students achieve strong outcomes and are well prepared for further study. The post holder will contribute to a culture of high expectations, consistency and continuous improvement in line with whole-school priorities. The position commences August 2026.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, well-structured lessons in Business and Economics that secure strong progress for all learners.
- Plan sequenced, knowledge-rich lessons aligned to curriculum and examination specifications.
- Teach to the top while providing appropriate scaffolding and use assessment effectively to inform planning.
- Model accurate use of subject-specific vocabulary and promote critical thinking and real-world application.
- Contribute to curriculum development and review, ensuring schemes of work reflect examination requirements.
- Set purposeful home learning that supports retrieval, consolidation and exam readiness.
- Establish a calm, purposeful learning environment with high expectations of behaviour and engagement.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with students and communicate effectively with parents.
- Contribute to the Social Sciences department, professional development processes and enrichment activities.
- Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote student wellbeing.
Requirements
- Recognised teaching qualification (minimum B.Ed. or BA/BSc plus PGCE/QTS).
- Degree or strong subject background in Business, Economics or a related discipline.
- Experience teaching Business and/or Economics at GCSE or IGCSE level.
- Strong subject knowledge and understanding of examination requirements.
- High expectations of student achievement and behaviour, with the ability to use assessment and data to inform teaching.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Minimum two years of teaching experience in a British curriculum school, either in the UK or internationally.
- Excellent working knowledge of the National Curriculum for England and latest UK practice.
- Excellent IT skills and command of spoken and written English.
