The role

ESMS is recruiting a Teacher of Computing to join the Senior School Computing Department on a permanent, full-time basis. The salary is £52,508 and an immediate start is available, subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks. The role is based at the ESM Senior School on the Queensferry Road site. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about engaging with current research, reflecting critically on their practice and contributing to professional dialogue around effective teaching and learning. Approaches should be informed by recognised frameworks, including the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s 12 Principles of Computing Pedagogy. The department’s core curriculum is built around Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL and PHP. The post holder will possess strong expertise in these languages and be willing to explore and introduce emerging languages, tools and technologies where they enhance pupils’ learning.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver appropriate lessons to classes S1 to S6
  • Assess student progress via formal and informal assessment
  • Report on progress and give feedback as part of the school’s reporting process

Requirements

  • General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) registration, or eligibility for registration
  • A recognised teaching qualification and a subject-specific degree-level qualification
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise workload with good attention to detail
  • Passion for Computing and for promoting the subject to young people
  • Ability to embody and promote the school values of Kindness, Confidence, Resilience, Integrity and Curiosity
