About the Drama Department

The Drama Department at Luckley House School is a dynamic and creative team, comprising the Director of Drama, a part-time Teacher of Drama, and peripatetic Drama teachers. Lessons take place in a dedicated theatre and classrooms, providing an inspiring environment for students to explore their creativity. The department has an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality productions and fostering a love of Drama among pupils.

Key responsibilities

  • Teaching Drama across Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A-level, using AQA specifications.
  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons that foster confidence, creativity, and resilience in students.
  • Collaborating with the Director of Drama and peripatetic Drama teachers to support pupils through external qualifications.
  • Organising and directing large-scale productions, showcases, and performances.
  • Monitoring, assessing, and reporting on student progress, ensuring continuity and progression in learning.
  • Supporting the pastoral care of students as a Form Tutor, including monitoring attendance, behaviour, and academic progress.
  • Contributing to the school’s enrichment programme and extra-curricular activities, including theatre trips and clubs.

Requirements

Essential

  • A good honours degree in Drama or a related subject.
  • PGCE or equivalent qualification with QTS.
  • Experience teaching Drama up to and including A-level.
  • A strong record of directing school productions or performances.
  • Excellent subject knowledge and the ability to inspire students of all abilities.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable

  • Specialist qualifications or experience in areas such as technical theatre, musical theatre, LAMDA, or examination board delivery.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in Drama education or theatre practice.
  • Experience of leading cross-department projects or whole-school productions.
