About the school

Runnymede College is a private non-denominational British school in Madrid offering a British education to boys and girls of all nationalities from the age of two to eighteen. The school follows the British National Curriculum. Founded in 1967, the primary school opened in 1987 and the whole school has been based in La Moraleja, in the north of Madrid, since 1990. The school is organised into Pre-Prep (Pre Nursery to Year 3), Prep (Years 4 to 8) and Senior School (Years 9 to 13).

Academic standards are high. In 2025, 57% of students achieved A-A* at A Level, exceeding the 48% average recorded in independent schools in England. At IGCSE, 67% of pupils attained A*-A grades. In the graduating class of 2025, 83% of pupils progressing to the UK attended top-ten universities according to the Sunday Times Good University Guide, including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL and LSE. Students also secured places at leading institutions in the United States, Spain and elsewhere in Europe.

The role

The school seeks an outstanding Teacher of Economics to join the Senior School from September 2026. The successful candidate will teach A Level Economics and Business to Year 12 and 13 students following the Edexcel specification. The post offers the opportunity to work with motivated pupils, many of whom apply to Economics-related courses at leading universities, and to contribute to the wider life of the school through pastoral and co-curricular activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and varied lessons that meet the learning needs of all students.
  • Enthuse pupils and maintain high expectations of effort and behaviour.
  • Support students with university applications and provide guidance on wider reading and preparation.
  • Participate fully in extension programmes, including the Year 12 Extended Essay Competition.
  • Contribute to co-curricular activities such as the Economics Society or Model United Nations.

Requirements

  • A good honours degree in Economics, Business Studies, Mathematics or a related subject from a British university.
  • A PGCE or other qualified teacher status for secondary education.
  • Recent experience teaching A Level Economics.
  • Recent experience teaching A Level Business (preferred).
  • Ability to adapt learning strategies to individual student needs.
  • Proven classroom management skills and high expectations of pupil conduct.
  • Strong organisational skills and the capacity to meet deadlines.
  • Native-level English speaker.

Previous experience in an international school or recent teaching experience in a UK school is desirable but not essential.
