About the school

The College is a private non-denominational British school in Madrid offering a British education to boys and girls of all nationalities from the age of two to eighteen. The school follows the British National Curriculum. Founded in 1967, the whole school has been located in La Moraleja in the north of Madrid since 1990. It is divided into Pre-Prep (Pre Nursery to Year 3), Prep (Years 4 to 8) and Senior School (Years 9 to 13).

Academic levels are high. In June 2025, 57% of students achieved A-A* at A level, compared with 48% at independent schools in England. In addition, 67% of pupils gained A*-A grades at IGCSE. In the graduating class of 2025, 83% of pupils going to the UK attended Top 10 universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL and LSE. Students also progressed to leading institutions in the US, Spain and elsewhere in Europe.

The role

The school seeks an outstanding Teacher of English to join the Senior School in September 2026. The successful candidate will be passionate about English and committed to achieving the very best for pupils at all levels. They will engage and motivate pupils using effective methods of teaching and differentiation, and must be able to teach IGCSE and A Level English Literature as well as IELTS to Year 12 pupils. All staff are expected to play an active role in the co-curricular life of the school.

Requirements

  • A good honours degree from a British university
  • A PGCE or equivalent qualified teacher status for English teaching
  • Previous experience teaching IGCSE and A Level English Literature
  • Previous experience teaching IELTS
  • Excellent teamwork skills and willingness to collaborate on planning and resourcing
  • Ability to modify learning strategies to target the needs of individual students
  • High expectations of pupilsโ€™ effort and behaviour, supported by proven classroom management skills
  • Organised, able to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Motivated, with initiative to contribute to the success of the department
  • Native-level English speaker
  • Good working knowledge of ICT systems and their application in the classroom

Previous experience of an international school or recent experience teaching in a UK school is desirable but not essential.
