About the school

Al Basma British School is a popular and over-subscribed, high performing ENC School in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The seven-form entry school currently caters for 1950 children from FS1 to Y13 and continues to grow at a rate of around 200 students per year, with capacity expected to reach 2400 within three years. A state-of-the-art Primary block for Y3 to Y6 opened in September 2020.

The school follows the 2014 National Curriculum of England and the updated 2020 Development Matters Framework in EYFS. GL CAT4 and GL Progress tests are used for Years 4 to 10, alongside GCSE, iGCSE, iAS and iA Level qualifications from Cambridge, Edexcel and Pearson. A range of BTEC qualifications is being introduced. A small cohort of students study French to GCSE and A Level each year.

Al Basma gained BSO accreditation in May 2016 and achieved a Good rating with an increased number of outstanding features in May 2022. The school has consistently achieved Band A gradings in ADEK Irtiq'aa inspections since January 2017 and consolidated its Very Good ADEK grading in February 2022. The campus is well resourced with excellent facilities and is located in the quiet, safe neighbourhood of Al Bahia, near Abu Dhabi International Airport and Yas Island.

The role

We seek a French teacher to join our successful French team for the new academic year starting August 2026. This is a full-time post on a contract to July 2028, renewable. The successful candidate will demonstrate a genuine commitment to creating an inspiring and stimulating child-centred learning environment. Teachers are expected to be highly motivated exemplary practitioners with a deep understanding of personalised learning, committed to ongoing school improvement and comfortable in a climate of innovative and creative development.

As a BSO school, we are able to offer UK recognised DfE statutory induction to candidates with QTS using the Early Career Framework, in association with ESP Education. Candidates requiring ECT induction should state the number of terms remaining.

Requirements

  • An internationally recognised Bachelor’s Degree in Education specialising in French and QTS or equivalent teacher licence, or
  • An internationally recognised Bachelor’s Degree in French or a closely related subject and an internationally recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE or PGDE in French and QTS or equivalent, or
  • A Master’s Degree in French and one year of experience teaching French.

All qualifications must be attested for the UAE prior to arrival. Successful applicants must provide two supporting references, including the most recent employer, and a police clearance certificate, ACRO or DBS no more than three months old.
