Teacher of Geography Basic
About the school
Lord Wandsworth College is a registered charity providing outstanding, caring education for boys and girls since 1922. The College occupies a 1,200-acre campus in Hampshire that includes woodland and a working farm.
The role
The Teacher of Geography will contribute to the delivery and ongoing development of an ambitious and coherent seven-year Geography curriculum from Year 7 through to Sixth Form. The post holder will inspire pupils to become increasingly knowledgeable, thoughtful and independent geographers, developing secure subject knowledge alongside geographical enquiry, critical thinking, fieldwork and the purposeful use of geographical technologies.
The successful candidate will teach across the age and ability range and contribute to both Human and Physical Geography. Pupils progress from an enquiry-rich Key Stage 3 curriculum to Edexcel International GCSE Geography and Cambridge International A Level Geography.
Geography at the College is a popular and successful subject with a strong emphasis on academic ambition, contemporary Geography and learning beyond the classroom. Fieldwork is central to the department’s approach.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute positively to curriculum development, assessment, fieldwork, enrichment and the wider life of the department and College.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and bring geographical interests and expertise to the team.
- Help pupils not simply to remember Geography, but to think geographically: to ask questions, make connections, interpret evidence, evaluate perspectives and engage thoughtfully with a rapidly changing world.
- Make purposeful use of the College’s campus, woodland and working farm, alongside local, residential and wider enrichment opportunities.
Requirements
- Commitment to the College’s values and to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
- Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check and provide satisfactory references.
- Support for diversity and equality of opportunity, including applications from under-represented groups.
