The role
Teach Hurst offers talented Maths graduates the opportunity to begin a career in teaching with a salaried, on-site training programme at Hurstpierpoint College. The programme allows trainees to gain classroom experience from day one while working towards qualified teacher status. Year 1 focuses on building classroom experience, knowledge and pedagogy through observation and class teaching on a reduced timetable. Year 2 comprises a fully funded, in-school PGCE course provided by Buckingham University, with an increased teaching load and further responsibility. On completion of Year 2, trainees gain QTS and progress onto the Early Career Teacher framework and the Hurst qualified teacher scale.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver Maths lessons across a range of ages and abilities under the guidance of experienced mentors.
- Observe and contribute to teaching, learning and assessment practices throughout the college.
- Participate in the school’s co-curricular programme, including sports, activities and boarding duties where appropriate.
- Engage fully in professional development, mentorship and reflective practice throughout the two-year programme.
Requirements
- A strong degree in Mathematics or a closely related subject.
- Enthusiasm for working with young people and a genuine passion for education.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to contribute to the wider life of the school.
- Commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children.
