About the school
With its origins in the 13th Century, the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe, was granted a Royal Charter by Queen Elizabeth I in 1562. The school continues to enjoy a reputation as one of the leading state selective schools in the country and has been consistently rated outstanding. It maintains high academic standards and excellent examination results, consistently featuring among the top 60 state schools in England. Almost all students progress to university, with approximately 14 attending Oxford or Cambridge each year.

Most students are day students. Boarding is offered to 70 boys as one of 40 state boarding schools and plays a substantial role within the life of the school.
The role
To start as soon as possible until 17 December 2026. The Teacher of Music will enjoy a role that supports professional development and offers a genuine opportunity to contribute to the musical life of the school. The current Director of Music is highly experienced and will provide strong support to ensure success in the position.
The role comprises two main strands: the proficient teaching of music in class across the age range, and energetic leadership of co-curricular activities within the department, tailored to the successful candidate’s skill set.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality classroom music teaching across the age range.
- Lead and contribute to a range of co-curricular musical activities.
- Apply ICT effectively in the music classroom.
- Encourage and support musicians at all levels, from beginners to advanced performers.

- Good working knowledge and practical experience of ICT in the music classroom.
- Wide-ranging musical knowledge.
- Passion for making music at every level with the ability to inspire beginners, modest achievers and top musicians alike.
