About the school

Runnymede College is a private non-denominational British school in Madrid offering a British education to boys and girls of all nationalities from the age of two to eighteen. The education offered follows the British National Curriculum.

Founded as a private school in September 1967, the primary school was inaugurated in 1987, and since 1990 the whole School has been located in La Moraleja, in the north of Madrid. The School is divided into Pre-Prep (Pre Nursery to Year 3), Prep (Years 4 to 8) and Senior School (Years 9 to 13).

Academic levels are high at Runnymede College. In June 2025, 57% of students achieved A-A* at A level, compared with 48% of A*-A grades achieved at independent schools in England. In addition, 67% of pupils gained A*-A grades at IGCSE, compared with 48% at GCSE in the English independent school sector.

In the graduating class of 2025, 83% of pupils going to the UK attended Top 10 universities. Top-ranking UK universities welcoming this year’s graduates include Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL and LSE. Students in the US have started their higher education at Harvard, Columbia, UPenn and Brown, amongst other excellent colleges. A number of students remain in Spain at institutions including ICADE, IE and ICAI, while others continue their education in world-leading institutions in France and Ireland.

The role

The school is looking to recruit an outstanding Physics teacher to join the Senior School. The successful candidate will teach Cambridge IGCSE Co-ordinated Sciences (Double Award), separate IGCSE Physics and A Level Physics.

Requirements

  • A good honours degree from a British University
  • A PGCE or other equivalent qualified teacher status for Science teaching with Physics subject specialism
  • Excellent teamwork skills and willingness to collaborate on planning and resourcing
  • The ability to modify learning strategies to target the needs of individual students
  • High expectations of pupils’ effort and behaviour, facilitated with proven classroom management skills
  • Organised and able to prioritise to meet deadlines
  • Motivated and able to use initiative to contribute to the success of the department
  • A native-level English speaker

Previous experience of an independent or international school and recent experience as a teacher in a school in the UK are preferable but not essential.
