Teaching Assistant Basic
The role
The Lisboan International School seeks a Teaching Assistant to support the delivery of its international curriculum in Lisboa. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teachers to provide relevant learning experiences, assist with differentiated instruction, and contribute to a respectful and student-centred environment that promotes academic excellence and pastoral care.
Key responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge of the curriculum and student developmental needs by supporting high-expectation learning experiences.
- Collaboratively plan with teachers using effective strategies, resources and data to meet the needs of all students.
- Engage students through a variety of differentiated instructional strategies, including support for those requiring additional learning assistance in collaboration with EAL and learning differences specialists.
- Assist in gathering assessment data to measure student progress, provide feedback and inform curriculum development.
- Help maintain a positive, safe and student-centred learning environment using appropriate resources and routines.
- Develop teaching and learning resources, including online Virtual Learning Environment materials, for students at different levels.
- Support the implementation of conceptual-based, inquiry-driven and contextually relevant lessons.
- Collaborate with the Learning Support Department to deliver differentiated instruction for students with IEPs and EAL needs.
- Promote international mindedness and the attributes of The Lisboan within and beyond the curriculum.
- Assist with the planning of field trips that utilise Lisbon as an extension of the classroom.
- Support attendance recording, behavioural and accident logging, and parent communication in line with school expectations.
- Contribute to the schoolβs co-curricular Experience programme and perform assigned supervisory duties.
- Be available for substitution and carry out other duties as reasonably assigned by the line manager.
Requirements
- At least three years of experience in a school setting is preferred.
- A recognised teaching assistant qualification is preferred.
- Strong IT skills are preferred; good IT skills are essential.
- Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to promote the welfare of all children and positively support diversity and inclusion.
- Strong interpersonal, organisational and collaborative skills with the capacity to meet deadlines.
- Optimistic, resilient, adaptable, collegial, emotionally intelligent, enthusiastic, driven, community-engaged, ethical and detail-oriented professional disposition.
- Consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct.
