About the school
Barton Court Academy Trust is a multi-academy trust established in 2017. It comprises three secondary schools: Barton Court Grammar School, an 11-18 mixed selective school in Canterbury rated Good by Ofsted; The Charles Dickens School, an 11-16 mixed non-selective school in Broadstairs rated Good by Ofsted; and Barton Manor Free School, an 11-18 non-selective mixed school in Canterbury that opened to Year 7 in September 2022. Sandwich Technology School is planned to join the trust from November 2026.
Barton Manor School is a non-selective 11-18 free school located in Canterbury, a short walk from the city centre. The school is in its fifth year and currently has students in Years 7 to 11. When full, it will share a sixth form with Barton Court Grammar School offering a wide range of vocational and academic courses. The school was graded Good for Quality of Education and Behaviour and Attitudes, and Outstanding for Personal Development and Leadership and Management in its May 2025 Ofsted inspection. All classrooms feature state-of-the-art interactive whiteboards, with excellent specialist facilities for sport, hospitality, engineering, dance, drama, music and art. The school maintains a broad curriculum and invests significantly in professional development for all staff.
The role
Required for 1 January 2027, Barton Manor School seeks a well-qualified and experienced English teacher on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave. The post involves teaching English across Years 7 to 11, with the ability to teach up to GCSE essential and teaching to A level desirable. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of experienced English teachers working closely with colleagues at Barton Court Grammar School. The role is suitable for an experienced professional or an early career teacher.
