Established in 1894, Oporto British School is the longest-established British School in mainland Europe. It follows the English National Curriculum up to KS3, leading to Cambridge IGCSE, and then to the IB Diploma Programme. Pupils have achieved outstanding IB Diploma results in recent years. The school, while conscious of its British foundation and traditions, is very much an international school of the 21st century. It has undergone a successful ISI inspection and is COBIS and CIS accredited. The role
Oporto British School seeks a talented and motivated temporary Teacher of Mathematics to join the Secondary School from September 2026. This is a part-time or full-time position teaching Mathematics across Key Stage 3, IGCSE and the IB Diploma Programme. The ability or desire to develop towards teaching IB Mathematics at Higher Level is a strong advantage.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive Mathematics department that enjoys a high profile within the school, with students consistently achieving results above UK and international benchmarks. The post requires a commitment to excellent teaching and learning, the ability to inspire students with genuine enthusiasm for Mathematics, and a willingness to contribute fully to the wider life of the school.
Requirements
- Holds a relevant degree and teaching qualification
- Experience teaching Mathematics to school-leaving age
- Ideally experience of IGCSE Mathematics and the IB Diploma Programme together with its underpinning pedagogical principles
- Demonstrates a student-centred approach, strong classroom management and the ability to adapt to different learning needs
- Enjoys collaborating, sharing best practice and contributing to the continued development of the department
- Must already have the legal right to work in Portugal; this is a local-hire position
