Vice Principal - Head of Senior School Basic

The role

St George’s British International School Rome is seeking an experienced and inspirational Vice Principal to serve as Head of the Senior School at the La Storta Campus. The Vice Principal - Senior School is responsible for defining and delivering the school’s vision for Secondary education, ensuring that students’ learning, well-being and enjoyment are consistently excellent. The post holder leads with integrity, clarity and ambition for every child, modelling and driving forward the school’s core values of internationalism, inclusivity and excellence. The Vice Principal - Senior School is a member of the four-person Executive Leadership team and reports to the Principal/CEO. The position is full-time and permanent, with a start date of September 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement a clear vision for the Senior School, including the Sixth Form, within the framework of the school’s values and strategy.
• Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Senior School, including line management of its Leadership Team.
• Lead continuous school improvement planning, rigorous self-evaluation and the setting of realistic improvement targets.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory and school policy requirements.
• Manage Senior School admissions, resourcing, staffing and budgeting in collaboration with senior colleagues.
• Ensure students’ learning, well-being and enjoyment remain central to all activity, with relevant curriculum, assessment and teaching strategies consistently applied.
• Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning, implementing improvement strategies where required.
• Promote high expectations for all students and ensure individual learning and pastoral needs, including SEND, are identified and supported appropriately.
• Champion the effective use of technology to support learning and ensure clear, accurate reporting to parents.
• Lead the development of extracurricular opportunities and support smooth transitions with Junior School colleagues.
• Ensure students and staff are safe and feel safe, maintaining an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
• Further develop whole-school behaviour systems and communicate regularly with parents on student achievement, behaviour and well-being.
• Foster a positive, collaborative team culture based on the school’s core values and build effective home-school partnerships.
• Lead staff recruitment, induction, appraisal and professional development within the Senior School.

Requirements

• A good UK Honours Degree or equivalent.
• Relevant recent experience as a Head or Deputy Head teacher, together with a distinguished record of teaching and senior leadership.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate professionally with all stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of teaching and learning practices, curriculum development and current trends in British and global education.
• Proven ability to coach and develop staff, particularly Middle and Senior Leaders, and to foster teamwork.
• Exceptional organisational and administrative skills, with competence in IT and strategic thinking.
• Diplomatic, persuasive and resilient, with the capacity to manage ambiguity and deliver tasks to completion.
• A Masters-level qualification in Education or Educational Leadership is desirable.
