About the school

Hills Road Sixth Form College in Cambridge has a strong sporting tradition and runs highly successful teams across major sports. The Sport Department is well regarded for combining sporting excellence with academic achievement. It comprises three teaching staff delivering A level courses, four support staff and twelve part-time staff who deliver the Enrichment programme and college sport. The department promotes sport equity and encourages all students, regardless of gender or ability, to reach their full potential through both elite and recreational opportunities.

The role

We are seeking an experienced part-time coach to lead our women’s rugby team. The position is fixed-term and part-time, requiring six hours per week at £26.57 per hour. The contract runs from 24 August 2026 to 30 April 2027, with payment provided for any additional sessions if the season extends into the summer term.

The role involves working alongside three other coaches to deliver pre-season trials, regular team coaching and squad selection. The team competes in the AoC Cup and a local college league. A central requirement is taking a holistic approach that develops technical and tactical skills while fostering a positive team culture built on resilience, teamwork and continuous improvement on and off the pitch.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver coaching sessions for the women’s rugby team.
  • Organise and run pre-season trials and squad selection.
  • Prepare the team for matches in the AoC Cup and local college league.
  • Drive the college minibus to weekly fixtures.
  • Build a supportive team environment that emphasises resilience, teamwork and personal development.

Requirements

  • Hold a current RFU coaching qualification.
  • Hold a current RFU Headcase certificate.
  • Have held a full driving licence for at least two years with no more than three penalty points.
  • Be available to drive the college minibus to fixtures (training will be provided).
  • Demonstrate commitment to developing players both technically and personally.
